Plan Outline

This plan is for a Major in Chinese Studies.

The Department offers a flexible program for students with different interests and different Chinese language backgrounds. Students can enter Chinese language courses at different levels, depending on their knowledge of Chinese characters. Within each year, students are allocated to different groups, depending on their speaking ability.

This plan is available to students commencing at Beginners' and Intermediate entry levels.

Plan Structure

In order to count Chinese Studies as a major sequence, students must complete 42 units of credit in Chinese language and Chinese Studies courses, including two Level 3 or two Level 4 (Professional Elective) courses.

Beginners' entry level

Year 1 CHIN1006 and CHIN1007 (12uoc)
Year 2 CHIN2006 and CHIN2007 (12uoc)
Year 3 CHIN3006 and CHIN3007 and
1 Chinese Studies/Professional Elective course (6uoc)

Intermediate entry level

Year 1 CHIN2006 and CHIN2007 (12uoc)
Year 2 CHIN3006 and CHIN3007 (12uoc)
Year 3 1 Professional Elective course plus 2 Chinese Studies/Professional Elective courses (18uoc)

Honours

Honours level study is available in Chinese Studies. Students interested in Honours should refer to the Honours plan record for entry requirements.

Placement test

A combined placement test for Years 1 and 2 will be held on Wednesday 21/2/07 at 11.00am - 1.00pm
Venue: Electrical Engineering G24

Students will not be allowed to enrol in language courses that are too easy for them in terms of Chinese character knowledge. If this occurs, the Department will request that students change their enrolment. The decision of the Department is final.
