Description Traces and analyses Chinese social and cultural change through visual art. In this course, art is considered a significant sociocultural text and is examined and analysed as such. While mainly following anthropological approaches, this study is, to a large extent, interdisciplinary. Development and transformation of visual art in China are examined with the aim of understanding social and cultural change in contemporary China. Students also gain a knowledge of relevant and current anthropological and cultural theories and their application to the study of Chinese culture and art.
