Description

Aims to provide students with Chinese communication skills at a level beyond Advanced Chinese Language, with particular focus on communication skills needed in professional settings, such as writing professional letters, reading newspaper editorials and technical documents, public speaking, and understanding topics of a more technical nature.


Learning Outcomes

  • Learn strategies for writing professional documents
  • Be able to read authentic texts and technical documents
  • Improve listening skills through communicative tasks
  • Improve public speaking skills
  • Acquire basic Chinese-English translation/interpreting techniques
  • Gain greater fluency and confidence in language use
  • Gain a greater appreciation for aspects of Chinese culture.

  • Class participation - 20%
  • Oral/public speaking tasks - 30%
  • Homework and quizzes - 30%
  • Final exam - 20%
