Description Spanish is one of the world's major languages, spoken not only in Spain but in many countries, particularly in Latin America. Spanish Studies aims to provide students with an informed understanding of the Spanish-speaking world through the study of Spanish language, literature, civilisation and history. This approach aims to enable to students to achieve a high level of communicative competence in Spanish while offering them a critical understanding of history, society and culture.
Studying Spanish at UNSW The study of Spanish at UNSW is primarily through the School of Languages and Linguistics (http://languages.arts.unsw.edu.au/spanish/spanish.html) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and caters to both elementary and advanced students. At an undergraduate level, courses in Spanish and Latin American Studies are available in language, literature and history. Major sequences may also be followed in language and literature and/or history. A major in Spanish and Latin American history may be completed with no knowledge of Spanish but a reading knowledge of the language is a prerequisite for entry to the Honours year. Postgraduate programs at Masters and Doctorate levels are also available
