Plan Outline

The Environmental Studies program is designed for students who wish to undertake a major sequence within the BA degree concentrating on the historical, theoretical, and policy implications of the human construction and transformation of the environment.

Plan Structure

The interdisciplinary program in Environmental Studies constitutes a stand alone major, or can be combined with another major.

Level 1

For the major, there are no compulsory Level 1 courses, however a typical program would include:

and courses offered under the Geography Program in the Faculty of Science.

Major sequence

For a major sequence in Environmental Studies you must have a total of 42 units of credit at Upper Level, from the courses listed below. Note that the Core Course is compulsory and that you must also take at least one of the fundamental knowledge courses. Apart from the Core Course, you must also include at least one other course numbered with a ‘3000’ code.

Core course (compulsory and normally taken in the third year of study):

Fundamental knowledge courses (you must take at least one)

Electives (check availability with relevant schools)

and, by approval of the Environmental Studies Coordinator, selected courses offered under the Geography program in the Faculty of Science.

ARTS2000 and HPSC3920 may only be taken as electives subject to the agreement of the Environmental Studies Coordinator that they have appropriate environmental content.

Honours

Honours level study is available in Environmental Studies. Students interested in Honours should refer to the Honours plan record for entry requirements.
