Program Description

This program is for students commencing prior to 2016. The Arts component has changed and the new Bachelor of Arts and Business/Law program will be published when approved. Please contact the Faculty of Law for further advice.

This program combines the professional LLB program with Bachelor of Arts and Business. The Bachelor of Arts and Business (BA&Bus) is designed to provide students with all the benefits of an education in the Humanities, Social Sciences and the Creative and Performing Arts PLUS study in Business. The program provides students with not only the depth (Major and Minor streams) of the Bachelor of Arts but a specially-designed Business Studies stream that will introduce you to key concepts and approaches in Business and Management.

(i) Students may select any major from those offered in the Bachelor of Arts and Business 3437.
(ii) Students may select any minor from those offered in the Bachelor of Arts and Business 3437.

Duration/Award
The program is a six year full-time combined program leading to the award of the two degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Business and Bachelor of Laws (BA&Bus LLB).

BA&Bus
The degree of Bachelor of Arts and Business/Bachelor of Laws is not awarded until the completion of the full six year program, but students unable to complete the full program may apply to transfer to the three year Bachelor of Arts and Business program with advanced standing where appropriate.

At the completion of this program, students will have obtained a sound knowledge base in the disciplines of both Arts and Business and Law with general business background.

Note: Language Studies for Commencing Mid-Year Students
If your language skills are assessed as Level A in Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced or Professional you cannot commence study until Semester 1.

Approved Sequence of Study

Students must study Arts and Business courses in a sequence approved by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Law courses in a sequence approved by the Faculty of Law. A typical structure of a combined Arts and Business/Law program is set out below.

Award with Distinction in NonLLB degree
High achieving students who secure a WAM of 75 across their program and who have completed at least 48 UOC of their program at UNSW are eligible for the award of their Pass Degree "with Distinction".

General Education Requirements

Students enrolled in combined law degrees (with exception to Jurisprudence/Law) are not required to complete general education courses.

Honours

Honours in Laws
High achieving students may be eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours).

Please note that the Faculty's Honours and University Medallist policies are currently under review. Please visit the Honours in law website for further information about the current Honours policy (applicable to students who commenced the LLB in 2014 or earlier) and the status of the new policy.

Honours in the Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences
After completion of 144 UOC including all of the requirements of the Bachelor of Arts and Business dual degree, high achieving students may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) program 4504. Entry to Honours requires a WAM of 70 or higher in the stream(s) seeking to be further studied.

Academic Rules

Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts and Business in dual mode
  1. enrol in the Bachelor of Arts and Business and complete 144 UOC;
  2. complete the requirements for one home major stream
  3. complete the requirements for one minor stream
  4. complete a 6 UOC Faculty Prescribed Elective
  5. complete the requirements for the Business component
  6. enrol in 24 UOC of Business core courses in their first 48 UOC of study
  7. complete at least 30 UOC of Level 1 courses before enrolling in Level 2 courses
  8. specify their major and minor combination at the time of enrolment in Level 2 courses
  9. complete at least 24 UOC in their streams before enrolling in Level 3 courses
  10. complete 120 UOC overall before enrolling in their Major stream(s) Capstone course
Note: When students take this program in combination with a Bachelor of Laws they are unable to take any courses from the Business Law stream as advertised for program 3925 Science and Business. Ie students cannot complete any LEGTxxxx courses.
