The Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) is a highly valued business qualification that opens the door to a wide variety of careers. By combining rigorous business studies with a liberal studies component, you are able to design a degree which allows you to undertake studies in the areas of accounting, finance, human resource management, marketing, information systems, management, international business, business economics or business law while at the same time following your interests through studies in Arts, Social Sciences, Languages, and/or Science.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The Bachelor of Commerce (Liberal Studies) program is designed to give students the flexibility to choose broader areas of study depending on their interests and aspirations, therefore providing a broad liberal education while obtaining a professional business qualification.

The program normally consists of 32 courses or 192 units of credit (UOC) in approved courses to be completed over a period of four academic years.

Compulsory core courses account for 24 UOC (4 courses)
Note: For students intending to complete a major in Actuarial Studies, MATH1151 and MATH1251 should be completed instead of ECON1203 . Please refer to Actuarial Studies for further information.

Flexible core courses account for 24 UOC (4 courses). Students should choose four courses from the following list:
Note: For students intending to complete a major in Actuarial Studies, ACTL1001 Actuarial Studies and Commerce must be completed as one of these flexible core courses. Please refer to Actuarial Studies for further information.

Major requirements account for up to 96 UOC (16 courses)
Choose from EITHER
A single major within the Australian School of Business consisting of 48 UOC, which includes 42 UOC in an approved disciplinary stream and 6 UOC from the core requirements plus a minor of 24 UOC containing at least 6 UOC at level 3 (excluding Industrial Training components). The minor does not form part of the nominated major.
OR
A double major within the Australian School of Business consisting of 96 UOC (For each major, 42 UOC in the approved disciplinary stream and 6 UOC from the core requirements)

Liberal Studies courses account for a minimum of 36 UOC (6 courses) chosen from two out of the following three streams: Humanities, Language or Science. In order to obtain a third major in Liberal Studies, students should undertake all 9 Liberal Studies courses (54 UOC) from one area of approved study.
