Stream Outline

The Major in Indigenous Studies is a cross‐curricula program designed to complement your primary degree program at UNSW. It is an innovative course of studies to develop additional skills and knowledge on Australian Indigenous people, knowledge systems and continuing traditions from ancient periods through to contemporary times.

The aims of the Major are designed to:
  1. progressively expand students' knowledge from pre‐conceived or undeveloped notions of Indigenous Australia,
  2. provide deeper understanding of the historical relations between Indigenous and non‐Indigenous Australia that condition the contemporary Indigenous position and how it can be understood, and
  3. engage theoretical and knowledge contests in which analytical and practical approaches to address colonial legacies and improve Indigenous futures are being contested and shaped.
