Program Description

The Graduate Diploma in Flying is a program designed to meet the needs of graduates with an ambition toward a career as a pilot. In part paralleling the Bachelor of Aviation as a concurrent program, the Graduate Diploma allows professional flying training students to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and a Command Instrument Rating Multi-Engine (CIR-ME), as well as undertaking academic studies covering the theoretical issues, using Fee-Help. Award of the Graduate Diploma will require satisfactory completion of the Courses to be undertaken, which will themselves require the award of the CPL and the CIR-ME as part of the assessment. The Graduate Diploma in Flying is restricted to those who have satisfactorily completed the first year of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flying or Management).

Note: The duration of this program depends on which timing option is selected for taking the program concurrently with the Bachelor of Aviation (Management). The timing option is selected by the School of Aviation and the current timing option is shown below.

  1. BAv(Flying) students will have to transfer to BAv(Management) on acceptance of their application to the Grad Dip (Flying);

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to:
  1. Be enrolled in the Bachelor of Aviation (Flying or Management) at UNSW and have successfully completed the first year of study, or;
  2. Have been awarded a Bachelor of Aviation (or equivalent) at an Australian or recognized overseas tertiary institution;
  3. English language requirements as standard for UNSW Bachelor of Aviation;
  4. Completion of a compulsory Pre-Program Flight Screening Short Course;
  5. Pass an interview with the Head of School or Nominee;
  6. Hold a Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate (Australia).
