Taxation
 Taxation

Description

At UNSW the discipline of taxation focuses on tax legislation, policies and practices. In recent times, taxation has undergone significant changes and there is a need for lawyers, accountants, economists and tax administrators with current and specific knowledge of the taxation system. Graduates are employed in leading law and accounting firms, corporations and government taxation, treasury and revenue offices.

Studying Taxation at UNSW

Taxation programs at UNSW are offered both through the Australian School of Business and Atax, the taxation school in the Faculty of Law.

Taxation can be studied as a major within the Australian School of Business when enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Economics. Students who complete the Taxation co-major with an Accounting major will satisfy the requirements of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for admission to the CA program, subject to meeting further requirements. They will also satisfy the requirements of the Tax Agents Registration Board. Students with a qualification in Taxation and Accounting will be well placed to embark on careers as tax consultants. Students who undertake a co-major in Taxation will enhance job opportunities and career paths in an increasing range of professional, commercial and government sectors.

Taxation programs at UNSW are also offered through Atax (www.atax.unsw.edu.au), the taxation school in the Faculty of Law. Atax currently offers the Bachelor of Taxation at undergraduate level. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Taxation program wishing to attain professional accounting accreditation can choose accounting electives. The degree is accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
