Program Description
The BFA (Hons) offers students strong fundamentals combined with flexibility to explore various media through practice and experimentation, and undertake a significant research project and opportunities to engage with the arts world in their final year.
Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes
- demonstrate an understanding of the principles, concepts and skills relevant to art practice within a contemporary context
- undertake focused research engaging with a range of practice-based fine art methodologies
- locate and critique the framework of contemporary fine art practice, by reflecting on social, cultural and environmental contexts
- communicate their practice and research, to work independently and collaboratively, and be adept at undertaking tasks innovatively in a professional context
- perform at an international level, contributing to contemporary culture and fine art practice
Program Structure
The BFA (Hons) consists of a Fine Arts core that provides a depth of engagement with Fine Art studies (144 UOC) and an Elective and General Education component (48 UOC) that provides breadth of experience.

General Education Requirements
Honours
Students will be considered for the award of honours according to the following scale, which includes the average of the marks from the two Honours Research Project courses and the marks from all courses which contribute to the program.
- Honours Class 1: If WAM of at least 75.0 and Honours Research Project average of at least 85
- Honours Class 2 Division 1: WAM of at least 70.0 and Project average of at least 75
- Honours Class 2 Division 2: WAM of at least 65.0 and Project average of at least 65
- Honours Class 3: WAM of at least 50.0 and Project average of at least 50
Students who have completed 144 UOC and the requirements of Program 4800 Bachelor of Fine Arts, may seek approval to transfer to Program 4800 and graduate with that award.
