Program Description
Program Summary:
The program offers an excellent opportunity for students to study architecture at two pre-eminant architecture schools in Australia and China; namely the University of New South Wales and Tongji University, China.
Drawing on the strength of educational traditions, systems and practices of both UNSW BE and Tongji CAUP, thereby offering students an optimum curriculum for foundation architectural studies and the future professional training.The program will broaden the educational experience of students in further internationalising the curricula offered by the Architecture Program and Faculty of the Built Environment and build on the on the cross-cultural experience of students to enhance a superior learning environment.

Program Arrangements:
Students enrolled in this special program undertake their first 1.5 years of study at Tongji CAUP in English and under an academic curriculum jointly designed by Tongji CAUP and UNSW BE which shall fulfil the academic requirements of the first year of Bachelor of Architectural Studies at UNSW BE.
Students will undertake second and third year studies at the UNSW BE and completely follow UNSW BE curriculum. They shall receive the second, third and first half fourth year advance standing in Bachelor of Science in Architecture at Tongji CAUP.
Students then proceed to undertake final half of fourth year of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture
English curriculum at Tongji CUAP, which shall be jointly designed by Tongji CAUP and UNSW BE.
Students will undertake second and third year studies at the UNSW BE and completely follow UNSW BE curriculum. They shall receive the second, third and first half fourth year advance standing in Bachelor of Science in Architecture at Tongji CAUP.
Students then proceed to undertake final half of fourth year of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture
English curriculum at Tongji CUAP, which shall be jointly designed by Tongji CAUP and UNSW BE.
Admission Requirements:
Students will need to meet the admission requirements for both Tongji and UNSW. Tongji have advised that they will adopt the UNSW international student admission requirements in asssessing applicants for entry in Yr 1 of the Tongji program. Students will undertake 1.5 years at Tongji before entering Yr 2 of the UNSW BE Arch Studies program.
To be eligible for entry to UNSW, Tongji students must have achieved grades that meet the UNSW requirement for admission. As the program conducted at Tongji will be taught in English, the students applying for entry to Year 2 of the Architectural Studies program at UNSW will be deemed to meet the UNSW English Language requirement. Additionally, the students for this program will be drawn from international high schools where the language of instruction is English.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes
After successfully completing all 8 semesters of this dual program, students will graduate with a UNSW Bachelor of Architectural Studies and a Tongji University Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Graduates will be eligible to apply for the UNSW Master of Architecture program or alternatively proceed to postgraduate Architecture studies at Tongji.

During the two-year study at UNSW, students enrolled in this dual award program must undertake two courses that are currently core courses in the UNSW Master of Architecture program. Arch 7162 Environment (6 UOC) and Arch 7220 Architecture in Asia (6 UOC).
Dual award students will be enrolled in separate undergraduate versions of these courses.
In order to facilitate the undertaking of these courses in Years 2 and 3 of Architecture (UNSW-Tongji), students will substitute these courses for the 12 UOC of open elective requirement of the UNSW Architectural Studies program.

Academic Rules
The degree of Bachelor of Architecture (UNSW-Tongji) is awarded after the successful completion of a minimum 192 UOC.
Entry points:
Tongji CAUP – at the beginning of Year 1 & at UNSW BE the beginning of Bachelor of Architectural Studies Year 2.

Depth Component - 162 UOC
- 162 units of core courses, being all those prescribed core courses as outlined in the program structure.
- 12 UOC of FBE electives from the list of Interdisciplinary Learning Courses.
Breadth Component - 30 UOC
- 6 units of open (free) electives, selected in accordance with the faculty regulations for undergraduate study in the Faculty of Built Environment.
- 12 units of General Education in accordance with University requirements (see below)

Open Elective
Open electives can be chosen from any courses offered by any Faculty at UNSW for which the student meets prerequisite or other enrolment requirments. The exceptions are those specific General Education GEN prefix courses which cannot be counted as open electives. Open electives do not need to be taken outside the Faculty, students can choose BE electives as open electiives.
