Program Description
THIS PROGRAM IS FOR STUDENTS TRANSFERRING INTO HONOURS FROM PROGRAM 3464 BACHELOR OF MUSIC BACHELOR OF MEDIA (SCREEN AND SOUND PRODUCTION) THROUGH A UNSW INTERNAL PROGRAM TRANSFER.
The Dual award degree Bachelor of Music (Honours) Bachelor Media (Screen & Sound Production) is a five-year program (full-time).
The Bachelor of Music (Honours) is specifically for high-achieving students already admitted to the Bachelor of Music program. It allows Bachelor of Music students to spend their final year of study completing a research thesis or a practice-based research project and thesis as well as undertaking discipline specific research training through the coursework component.
The first three years of the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music (Honours) are common to both degrees. Before transferring to the Bachelor of Music (Honours) students must successfully complete all core and stream requirements for levels 1-3 of the Bachelor of Music and attain a minimum WAM of 70 in Music courses. Students undertaking the Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Dual mode must complete all core and stream requirements for levels 1-3 (96 UOC) of the Bachelor of Music before proceeding to level 4.
The Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) is designed to provide students with foundational and applied skills, knowledge and capabilities relevant to career pathways in a broad range of audio-visual, digital and screen production industries. The emphasis is on the acquisition of relevant creative and professional skills relevant to current media industry contexts, along with a sophisticated conceptual understanding of the increasingly convergent role of media and film in contemporary societies.

Program Structure
Requirements for the Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Dual Mode
The basic requirements for the degree in Dual mode (144 UOC) are:
- Musicology Core (30 UOC - 5 courses)
- Musicianship Core (24 UOC - 4 courses)
- Performance Laboratory Core (30 UOC - 5 courses)*
- Stream Gateway Course (6 UOC - 1 course)
- Stream Courses (12 UOC - 2 courses)
- Research thesis and/or Creative Practice Project (36 UOC)
- General Education (6 UOC -1 course)
*Dual Mode with Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production)
Because both Dual programs are internal to UNSW Arts and Social Sciences the General Education (GE) Exemption for Dual programs does not apply.
For students completing the BMus (Hons) in this Dual mode, 6 UOC of Prescribed Screen and Sound Production Electives is replaced with an approved GE course to meet 6 UOC of the GE requirement. The other 6 UOC is to be taken by replacing MUSC3701 Performance Laboratory 5 with an approved GE course. This completes the 12 UOC GE requirement.
NOTE: Students who select the Sonic Arts stream will take MDIA1005 Creative Sound Technologies (6 UOC) as part of their Screen & Sound Production core requirement, exempting them from MUSC2803 Creative Sound Technologies, which will be replaced by an approved GE course. The remaining 6 UOC is to be taken by replacing a Screen and Sound Production Prescribed Elective (6 UOC) with an approved GE course. This completes the 12 UOC GE requirement.
For students completing the BMus (Hons) in this Dual mode, 6 UOC of Prescribed Screen and Sound Production Electives is replaced with an approved GE course to meet 6 UOC of the GE requirement. The other 6 UOC is to be taken by replacing MUSC3701 Performance Laboratory 5 with an approved GE course. This completes the 12 UOC GE requirement.

Honours will be awarded in the following classes, based on the student's WAM rounded to the nearest whole number:- Honours Class I (WAM of 85 or higher)

Performance Ensembles

To qualify for the award of the degree at Honours level, a student must:
- enrol in the Bachelor of Music and complete 144 UOC
- complete the core requirements
- complete the stream courses and prescribed elective requirements
- complete 6 UOC of General Education
- complete the Research thesis and/or Creative Practice Project
- complete at least 36 UOC of Level 1 courses before enrolling in Level 2 courses
- specify their major at the time of enrolment into Level 2
- complete at least 36 UOC of Level 2 courses before enrolling in Level 3 courses

High achieving students who secure a WAM of 75 across their program and who have completed at least 48 UOC of their program at UNSW are eligible for the award of their Pass Degree "with Distinction".
Honours
After completion of 144 UOC including all of the requirements of the Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) dual degree, high achieving students may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Media (Honours) program 4510. A minimum WAM of 70 in the Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) component of the dual degree is required for entry into Honours.

Academic Rules
To qualify for the award of the degree at Pass level, a student must:
- enrol in the Bachelor of Media (Screen and Sound Production) and complete 96 UOC;
- complete the requirements for the cores
- complete the requirements for prescribed electives
- complete 6 UOC of General Education
- complete at least 30 UOC of Level 1 courses before enrolling in Level 2 courses
- complete at least 48 UOC overall before enrolling in Level 3 courses
