The Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Arts (BCom/BA) dual degree provides students with a highly regarded business degree complemented by a second degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences and the Creative and Performing Arts. It is assumed that students have a certain level of knowledge in advanced mathematics in order to cope well with the mathematical or statistical component of a business degree. If you are successful in obtaining a place without this assumed knowledge, you are strongly encouraged to consider studying a Mathematics Bridging Course before starting your degree.

Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes

On successful completion of the BCom component, students will have the ability to:

The program objectives and learning outcomes of the BA component are:

The requirements for the BCom in dual mode (96 UOC):
  • Compulsory core courses (24 UOC)
  • Flexible core courses (24 UOC)
  • Major requirements (48 UOC)
Compulsory core courses account for 24 UOC (4 courses)
Flexible core courses account for 24 UOC (4 courses). Students should choose four courses from the following list:
Major requirements: 48 UOC in an approved disciplinary stream offered by the UNSW Business School, containing at least 18 UOC at level 3. Refer to Table A. Note that the 48 UOC includes the first disciplinary course(s) in the Core (Compulsory or Flexible). This means that, for the majority of majors, students will complete 42 UOC in specified disciplinary courses outside the core. Therefore students may need to complete another 6 UOC of UNSW Business School courses to ensure they fulfil the 96 UOC required for the BCom component of this program.

Language Studies for Commencing Mid-Year Students

If your language skills are assessed as Level A in Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced or Professional you cannot commence study until Semester 1.

Honours

High achieving students may undertake honours in the area of their business major by enrolling in 4501 BCom(Hons) program.

After completion of 144 UOC including all of the requirements of the Bachelor of Arts dual degree, high achieving students may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) program 4504. A minimum WAM of 70 is required for entry into Honours.

Academic Rules

Academic Rules relating to the BCom dual mode component
Rules relating to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Commerce in dual mode shall apply wherever relevant. Students are advised to consult the Academic Rules for further information.

Academic Rules relating to the BA in dual mode
To qualify for the award of the degree at Pass level, a student must:
1. enrol in the Bachelor of Arts and complete 96 units of credit;
2. complete the requirements for one home major stream
3. complete the requirements for one minor stream
4. complete a 6 UOC Faculty Prescribed Elective
5. complete at least 30 UOC of Level I courses before enrolling in Level II courses
6. specify their major(s)/minor at the time of enrolment into Level II
7. complete at least 24 UOC in their major/minor before enrolling in Level III courses
8. complete 72 UOC overall before enrolling in their Major stream(s) Capstone course

Award with Distinction
High achieving students who secure a WAM of 75 across their program and who have completed at least 48uoc of their program at UNSW are eligible for the award of their Pass Degree "with Distinction".
