The Bachelor of Information Systems is a qualification which provides business skills to graduates, along with a specialisation in Information Systems (IS). The program is intended to develop students’ conceptual and practical skills.

After an introductory first stage, students will learn about business analysis systems, design, data management, business systems infrastructure and security, as well as mathematics, management accounting and commercial programming.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

This 3 year degree is designed for students interested in the use and application of IS and Information Technology (IT) in a commercial environment. It combines courses that assist students to learn about the technical environment of IS, as well as the business implications of these systems.

With organisations always looking for business savvy IS graduates who understand the technical issues which surround and impact their business systems, graduates from this program can forge careers in communications networks analysis and development, IS security development, e-business systems development, business intelligence systems construction, and IS and IT architecture and infrastructure development and maintenance.

The program includes courses from IS, Technology and Management, Computer Science, Mathematics and Business courses. An Honours option is also available for students who satisfy the necessary requirements.

General Education Requirements

Students in this program must complete 12 UOC in General Education courses or their equivalent (unless otherwise entitled to exemption). For further information about General Education Requirements please refer to the UNSW Online Handbook.

Please note that students enrolled in programs within the Australian School of Business cannot take General Education courses offered by the Business School. These restrictions also apply to the following courses:

Academic Rules

Pass degree requirements

Conditions for the Award of the Degree
  • A student must complete 144 UOC including 12 units of General Education
  • The degree must contain a major sequence of study as set out in the program structure
  • A student must complete no more than 60 units in Stage I courses
  • No student may commence Stage II courses until 18 Stage I units have been successfully completed
