Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Information Systems degree is a highly prized qualification which provides business skills along with a specialisation in information systems. The program is intended to develop conceptual and practical skills. After an introductory first stage, students will learn about business analysis systems and design, data management, business systems infrastructure and security as well as mathematics, management accounting and commercial programming.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

This three year degree is designed for students interested in the use and application of IS and IT in a commercial environment. It combines courses that assist students to learn about the technical environment of IS as well as develop an understanding of the business implications of these systems. Organisations are always looking for "business savvy" IS graduates who understand the technical issues which surround and impact their business systems. IS graduates from this degree can target careers in areas such as: communications networks analysis and development; IS security development; e-business systems development; business intelligence systems construction and IS and IT architecture and infrastructure development and maintenance. The program includes courses from many disciplines including: Information Systems, Technology and Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, as well as other Commerce and Economics courses. An Honours option is also available for students who satisfy the necessary requirements.

General Education Requirements

Students in this program must complete 12 units of credit in General Education courses or their equivalent (unless otherwise entitled to exemption). For further information about General Education Requirements please refer to the Online Handbook.

Please note that students enrolled in programs within the Australian School of Business cannot take General Education courses offered by the Business School. These restrictions also apply to the following courses:

Pass degree requirements

Conditions for the Award of the Degree
  • A student must complete 144 units of credit including 12 units of General Education.
  • The degree must contain a major sequence of study as set out in the program structure.
  • A student must complete no more than 60 units in Level I courses.
  • No student may commence Level II courses until 24 Level I units have been successfully completed.
