This plan only applies to students who commenced their degree program before 2009.

The Development Studies program is an interdisciplinary program that introduces students to the issues that concern the developing world such as poverty and inequality and the theories, policies and practical measures introduced to address these issues.

To complete a major stream in Development Studies students must complete 42 units of credit made up as follows:
(1) at least one compulsory Level 1 Development Studies course (from ARTS1750 or ARTS1751 or GLST1100 or GEOS1601) and
(2) ARTS2751 and
(3) two from the list of core elective courses listed below and
(4) at least 12 units of credit in elective courses at the 3000 level.

With the approval of the Coordinator of the Development Studies program, courses from other schools may be substituted for up to 12 of the optional units of credit. Many of these courses will have their own prerequisites, and you must fulfill Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences requirements concerning your distribution of courses. Please check School entries for availability, and consult the Coordinator about the best combinations of courses.

At least two courses (12 units of credit), selected from Upper Level core courses and three elective courses (18 units of credit), if only one six credit point course completed at Level 1.

Students must take at least 12 units of credit in elective courses at the 3000 level.
