Subject Area: Development Studies
The course has two main aims. First, to critically examine the ways agencies understand or ‘see’ development and how they act accordingly. Second, to prepare you for working in the field of development by introducing you to techniques and skills required to address development issues. To achieve this we will focus on what different agencies of development actually do; including the kinds of research used, how this is decided and negotiated, and how individuals working in the field can shape the direction different agencies take. We will address a range of issues that you can expect to contend with when working in agencies and in working in partnerships with agencies. The course content has been designed around case studies which allow you to engage with issues in existing contexts and think of ways you might approach the same scenarios if you were in control of different projects.
