NOTE: THIS PLAN IS ONLY FOR STUDENTS COMMENCING FROM 2008 ONWARDS

The International Studies component in the program Bachelor of International Studies Bachelor of Laws provides the knowledge and skills essential for understanding and working in the rapidly changing global environment.

The Globalisation Studies plan requires the completion of a sequence of courses in Globalisation Studies and a core sequence of courses in International Studies, together with an approved overseas program to be undertaken during the third or fourth year of study. There is scope in the degree for students to study a language in depth. Courses in the Bachelor of International Studies in Globalisation Studies are offered at all levels; they are taught in English and they require no previous knowledge of other languages.

Plan Structure

The basic requirements for the Globalisation Studies plan are:

A total of 138 units of credit
The core program in International Studies (30uoc)
A major sequence (36uoc) of courses in Globalisation Studies including GLST1000, GLST1100, GLST3000 amd ARTS3990
Normally a sequence of language study (24uoc)
12 months study at an approved overseas university.

Globalisation Studies Courses

First Level Core Courses

GLST1000 Global Political Economy (6 UOC)
GLST1100 Experiencing Globalisation (6 UOC)

Second/Third Level Courses

All students must complete two courses (12 UOC) across Second/Third Level, including at least ONE of the following courses:

ARTS2240 Environment and Development (6 UOC)
ARTS2870 Global Citizens (6 UOC)

and the balance of courses from:

ARTS2842 Politics of Globalisation (6 UOC)
ARTS2846 Multiculturalism (6 UOC)
ARTS2873 People and Place (6 UOC)
ARTS3872 Media in Social Processes (6 UOC)
ARTS3874 Culture and Human Rights (6 UOC)
GEOS2641 Aust. Cultural & Social Env. (6 UOC)
GEOS3611 Geographies of Asia-Pacific (6 UOC)

Third/Fourth Level Courses

All students must complete two semesters of OSP in Semester 2 of Third Level and Semester 1 of Fourth Level.

INST3101 Individual Study Program A (24 UOC)
INST3102 Individual Study Program B (24 UOC)

In their final Semester of study all students must complete:

ARTS3990 Arts Pre-Honours (6 UOC)
GLST3000 Issues in Globalisation (6 UOC)
