Description

This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the financial decision-making required in the commercial air transport industry. Air transport is capital intensive, and the structure of the industry has seen poor returns on this capital over an extended period. Specifically, this course examines (1) the tools for financial decision-making, and (2) the application of those tools in fleet and network planning. This course is intended to interrelate with AVIA1901 Air Transport Economics. The separation between the courses can be seen as a firm-level approach to financial analysis in this course against an industry-level micro-economic approach in AVIA1901. The interaction is intended to be pervasive, demonstrating that micro-economic analysis at an industry level acts as a driver for firm-level decisions.
