Advanced Techniques using BIM - BENV2421
Description
This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in the core course BENV1242 Computer Aided Design, developing a deeper understanding of the technology of building information modelling (BIM) with particular emphasis on the range of opportunities available to leverage benefits from BIM at all stages of the building procurement process. Expected learning outcomes include: understanding of what constitutes a good building information model; how building information can be effectively shared across the built environment disciplines; practical experience of the benefits of rich design information exchange within the building industry. The course deliberately employs a different BIM tool to the one used in the core introductory course in order to broaden the skill base of students. The course aims to provide professional level competence in the use of this developing technology at a time when the building industry is moving strongly in that direction. Delivery is through lectures and computer lab classes. Assessment is by means of practical exercises using a range of BIM tools.
