Description Fundamental principles; the Hydrogen atom; angular momentum; stationary and time-dependent perturbations; spin.
Electromagnetic fields; Maxwell's equations, Poynting theorem, potential formulation. Plane waves, reflection and transmission. Emission of radiation from accelerating charges, scattering and propagation of radiation in material media. Extended review of special relativity and its relations to electromagnetism. Assumed Knowledge: A knowledge of quantum mechanics to second year level and completion of a first course on Maxwell's equations for electrodynamics.
