Description The course provides an introduction to the Indonesian legal system: its modern form based within the civil law tradition and implications for legal pluralism that arise from co-existing Shariah law and Adat (customary) law. Recent developments and reforms in response to political, social and cultural change since 1997 will be covered. The course will take a thematic approach by considering issues within democratisation, decentralisation, Indonesian law-making style and form, and the court system. Legal subject areas will include constitutional law, investment law, commercial law, natural resources management, environmental law, land law, and human rights. Recommended Prior Knowledge None
