Description

Topic 1: Application of computer simulation techniques to geotechnical engineering problems. The course will cover mathematical model, finite-difference method for steady-state seepage and consolidation analysis; finite element method for steady-state seepage flow, transient seepage flow, stress analysis, consolidation analysis, staged construction and excavations; modelling techniques; applications of commercial finite-element packages; convergence study and error estimation. Topic 2: an introduction to the fundamentals of critical state soil mechanics and soil plasticity.
