Description

Politics is all around us in Australia, whether we consider ourselves 'political' or not. We are all members of political communities and participate in interactions that feature winners and losers. Aims to introduce Australian politics through the study of key features of the political system, and by elaborating on ways to interact with that system to try to shape it. It moves beyond the usual labels attached to popular understandings of politics.

Learning Outcomes


At the completion of this course students should have developed:
  • Disciplined research and writing techniques, including the use of bibliographical materials, analysis and synthesis
  • An ability to produce condensed, relevant notes through tutorial papers
  • An ability to produce concise, coherent arguments
  • An ability to write coherently and analytically.

Assessment

  • Essay (2000 words) - 40%
  • In-class tests - 40%
  • Tutorial assignments - 20%
