Description

Provides an opportunity for students to develop musicianship through the study of Western music literature, participation in an approved ensemble and attendance at workshops and concerts. Enables students to develop skills such as music literacy, analysis and aural awareness.


Learning Outcomes

When you successfully complete this course, you should be able to:
  • Apply knowledge of music literacy, harmony and scale theory in practical musical experiences such as participating in performance ensembles
  • Identify historical trends in western music
  • Have an expanded understanding of instrumentation and repertoire.

Assessment

  • Class contribution and attendance - 15%
  • End of session exam - 20%
  • Assignment - 35%
  • Concert performance attendance/reviews - 10%
  • Weekly performance groups - 10%
  • Music listening list research and test - 10%
