Description Explores examples of catastrophic wars and revolutionary upheavals, examines cases of ethnic-cleansing and genocide, and analyses the impact of ideologies on concepts of nation, race and gender. Themes include: Total War, Socialism, Fascism, Communism, Anarchism and the "New Woman". Case studies will include Hitler's Germany, Stalin's Russia, the Spanish Civil War, WWI & WWII, the Armenian genocide and the Holocaust.
Learning Outcomes At the completion of this course, students will develop a comprehensive knowledge of the key events, ideas and personalities that shaped Europe, 1914-1945.
