Description


Candidates are required to participate in the Honours seminar, complete additional coursework decided in consultation with the thesis supervisior and Head of School, and complete a thesis.

Note: With the approval of the Head of School, courses outside the School carrying up to 12 units of credit may be substituted in qualification for Honours.


Learning Outcomes


Students who successfully complete the Honours program should:
  • Gain skills in the independent planning and conduct of research
  • Acquire active firsthand knowledge of theoretical and interpretive approaches
  • Gain the ability to guide their own independent and reflective learning in the history and philosophy of science
  • Become proficient in the construction and presentation of sustained written argument.

Assessment


  • Seminar essay (5000-8000 words) - 25%
  • Specialised reading course or other coursework - 25%
  • Thesis (15000-20000 words) - 50%
