The Attractions of Fascism - EURO2301 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Description The social psychology of Fascism and its "aesthetics", the seductive forms in which its inhuman aims were presented to appeal to both classes and individuals. An attempt to explain, through the study of documents, literary texts and film, the attractions of Fascism for broad sectors of European society without whose support and tolerance it could never have retained power, and the implications for our understanding of our own society.
Learning Outcomes Aims to develop students' sensitivity and resistance to anti-democratic and authoritarian tendencies in contemporary organisations and societies through a study of the seductive techniques employed by European Fascism. Materials will include political texts, novels, art and film. Students will be encouraged to particpate in wide-ranging class discussions as equals and to search for suitable audio-visual materials for their presentations.
