Description

Exceptional children with learning, intellectual, physical, emotional or sensory disabilities. Philosophical and practical issues. Tests and criteria for identifying these students; their special needs, programs of remediation and evaluation of teaching strategies.


Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should be able to:
  • Understand the nature and purposes of special education
  • Understand the key issues surrounding special education
  • Cite the main categories of special education student and their specific problems in the education system
  • Understand the advantages and disadvantages of various ways of coping with special education students
  • Have some knowledge of practical techniques of dealing with special education students.

Assessment

  • Essay (1200 words) - 50%
  • Final exam - 50%
