Description

Explores the nature and historical background of dance as an art form and as musical theatre. The emphasis is on major events and figures in Western European, American and Australian ballet, modern and jazz dance.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Understand Australian Performance Art Dance within the context of Western Theatrical Dance
  • Identify current Australian dance practices
  • Understand Australian Dance within the broad context of theatrical, social and anthropological phenomena.

  • In-class essay 1 - 30%
  • In-class essay 2 - 30%
  • Exam - 30%
  • Tutorial participation - 10%
