Description

Studies (a) a range of systems and methods of analysing dance, leading to a comprehensive understanding of the ways in which movement makes meaning and (b) an introduction to dance making and the fundamentals of dance composition.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
  • Understand the fundamentals of dance analysis
  • Understand the principles and practices of dance composition
  • Apply the fundamentals of dance analysis and the principles and practices of dance composition in order to realise a specific concept/intent.

Assessment

  • Minor analysis - 10%
  • Major analysis - 30%
  • Practical composition task - 30%
  • Composition log book - 10%
  • Participation - 20%
