Description
Introduces the basic principles of and analytic vocabulary for the study of theatrical performance.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Describe a performance and its component elements
- Explain in terms of those elements how the performance achieves its effect
- Understand key terms in theatre and performance analysis
- Discuss selected key practitioners and theorists in 20th century theatre
- Read academic texts with critical understanding
- Show competence in basic principles of group-devised performance
- Access information and resources relevant to theatre and performance
- Follow the conventions of academic writing - titles, references and citations, etc.
- Work in an effective, self-motivated way in a university environment.
