Description

Explores the grammar of modern Korean covering theoretical and practical issues. Includes practical topics such as romanisation, language policy, dialectal differences, and idioms.


Learning Outcomes

In completing this course, students should be able to:
  • Explain broadly but systematically how the Korean language is used to fulfill 'transactional' and 'interactional' functions
  • Acquire critical knowledge about a selected aspect of Korean grammar
  • Gain general knowledge about the dialect situation and language policies in Korea.

  • Assignments - 40%
  • Seminar presentations - 10%
  • Group project - 20%
  • Essay (1500-2000 words) - 30%
