Description

Provides students with a framework for analysing problems in the field of Japanese Studies, including a theoretical framework and types and sources of problems. Where possible, students carry out empirical data collection and are guided through the analysis of and search for possible solutions to these problems.


Learning Outcomes

  • Gain an understanding of research process
  • Be familiar with several research methods and try out some of them in a small scale
  • Be able to search for library data
  • Be able to formulate a research proposal
  • Achieve a level of academic prose appropriate to the writing of a thesis.

Assessment

  • Active class participation - 25%
  • Assignment - 45%
  • Reflective learning journal/email discussion - 30%
