Note: Instruction will be given mainly in Japanese with some English.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should be able to:
  • Understand and analyse how macro phenomena of the world are constructed logically in the grammar of Japanese, in particular, how the flow of events is construed as a series in the development of text
  • Understand systematically how clauses are linked to one another by means of some kind of logico-semantic relation to form clause complexes
  • Consolidate the understanding of the grammar of human experiences and interactions
  • Develop the skills to work on, or with reference to, a large volume of natural Japanese language text and to view the language grammatically in a systematic way
  • Identify one's areas of weakness in grammar for improvement.
