Description

Further development of beginners' Japanese interactive skills. Prepares students to become competent in anticipated Australia - Japan contact situations and basic survival situations in Japan. Continued emphasis on oral-aural skill acquisition. Approximately 100 new kanji are introduced.


Learning Outcomes

  • Knowledge about communication styles in Japanese
  • Linguistic and paralinguistic communication skills in Japanese
  • Four macro-skills, i.e., speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, for interacting with others in Japanese at various levels
  • Narrate and describe events at a discourse level, smooth linking of sentences
  • Awareness of cultural differences between Japan and Australia
  • Positive interpersonal relationships with Japanese.

  • Listening tests - 20%
  • Interaction tests - 20%
  • Mid-term exam - 10%
  • Final exam - 20%
  • Sakubun/online presentation - 16%
  • Lab tasks - 5%
  • Active class participation - 9%
