Description

Analyses US history from the end of the Civil War to the reverberations of 9/11 from the perspective of politics, economics, culture, minorities, and foreign policy. Asks what America is and who the Americans are, and explains how this former colony acquired the status of hyperpower.

Learning Outcomes

This course will enable students to:

Critically reflect upon the nature of US society and the American role in the world
Develop an appreciation of the complexities, sensitivities, and evolving nature of US society and foreign relations
Sharpen communication skills through formal presentation as well as impromptu exchanges
Collect and synthesise sources of history and present a coherent argument
Better organise, research, and write essays.
