Description

Focuses on the major forces and features of twentieth century world history. Includes empires, modernity, nationalism, fascism, decolonisation, communist revolutions, total war, genocide, the growth of the media, social movements, environment, 'Americanisation', and terror.

Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Reflect critically on the nature of the twentieth century world
Analyse critically arguments and debates in world history
Read critically and concisely, drawing key arguments out of a given text and better organise, research and write essays
Address tutorial groups with greater confidence and skill.

Class test - 20%
Essay (2000 words) - 40%
Research exercise - 20%
Tutorial presentation - 10%
Participation - 10%
