Description

An introduction to Greek mythology: to the creation myths, the stories of the gods and their interaction with humans, and to some of the great cycles - Oedipus, the Trojan War, Orpheus. Includes reference to contemporary works incorporating new versions of the stories, especially films.

Learning Outcomes

This course will enable students to:

Have an understanding of social, ethical and cultural context
Think critically and develop and deploy rational thought
Develop an ability to communicate knowledge intelligibly and effectively in written and oral form
Be able to evaluate arguments and information.

Assessment

Essay 1 (1600-1800 words) - 30%
Essay 2 (1600-1800 words) - 30%
Participation - 20%
End of session test - 20%
