Description

Explores the social and historical foundations of the Weimar Republic and its innovative and modernist cultural scene, including visual arts, film, architecture, music, literature, theatre and the new media (radio, journalism), as well as developments in social and cultural theory.


Learning Outcomes

  • Summarise and critically comment on texts or films
  • Identify pre-textual and inter-textual connotations and comment on historical contexts
  • Construct own analytical and discursive texts on literary/sociological/historical topics in appropriate formal register
  • Construct texts that use appropriate idiomatic structures.

  • Written assignments 40%
  • Tutorial presentation 30%
  • Essay (1500-2000 words) - 30%
