Description

An introduction to the politics, history, thought, language and literature of Russia, which seeks to provide a broad understanding of the Russian past and present and the basis for some predictions for the future, and to signal directions for further study.

Learning Outcomes

Develop an understanding and ability to evaluate critically Russian politics, history, thought, art and literature as a complex cultural phenomenon
Develop independent research methods in these areas, as well as analytical and presentation skills.

Assessment

Oral class presentation - 10%
Written submission (1200 words) - 25%
Participation - 15%
Essay (2500 words) - 50%
