Description

Exceptional children with learning, intellectual, physical, emotional or sensory disabilities. Philosophical and practical issues. Tests and criteria for identifying these students; their special needs, programs of remediation and evaluation of teaching strategies.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

Understand the nature and purposes of special education
Understand the key issues surrounding special education
Cite the main categories of special education student and their specific problems in the education system
Understand the advantages and disadvantages of various ways of coping with special education students
Have some knowledge of practical techniques of dealing with special education students.

Assessment

Essay (1200 words) - 50%
Final exam - 50%
