![]() Contacts Overview The School of Social Science and Policy offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in social science, policy analysis and criminology.
The School is located in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and was established in recognition of a need for a vocationally oriented program in social science and policy analysis for students seeking careers in these areas. The programs offered by the School are multidisciplinary, drawing from all the social sciences and linking them to the policy process. They encourage and cultivate creativity and a critical perspective and develop skills in social science theory, quantitative and qualitative research methods, written and oral communication, analysis of policy documents and proposals, and in the use of computers in data analysis and information processing. Special emphasis is placed on familiarising students with the ways in which social science is put into practice by using case studies drawn from current projects being undertaken or commissioned by government and non government organisations. The School aims to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan and conduct social research projects and to hold responsible positions in policy analysis and social research in either the public or private sectors. For further information, please refer to the relevant discipline entry in this online Handbook and to the School website, as below. We look forward to welcoming you to UNSW.
