Development Studies is an area of knowledge which examines the geopolitical, social, ethical, cultural and economic contexts in which development takes place. Our flexible and interactive program provide students the opportunity to undertake specialist studies in development at the local, national and international level. The program is underpinned by a philosophy of human rights, social justice, community development and participatory approaches. Students develop superior knowledge and an analytic framework to understand and negotiate the complexities of international development policies, research and practices. Students have the unique opportunity to put theory into practice within international and local internship experiences.

Studying Development Studies at UNSW

The study of Development Studies at UNSW is primarily through the School of Social Sciences. Core courses are supported by a program of electives leading to Masters, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate awards.
