Program Description
The Master of Information Technology (MIT) is designed for postgraduate scholars who wish to develop an enhanced understanding of the principles that shape information technology and information systems. Students study the principles of IT governance, operation and management through concept, design, development and application phases. The program is especially designed for aspiring students looking for higher positions in the area of Information technology with advanced understanding of IT and project management, latest developments, networks, operations research and simulation and systems engineering. The program also provides foundations for students who wish to proceed to higher levels of study in the Doctor of Information Technology.
Program Objectives and Graduate Attributes
The Masters provides advanced professional qualifications in Information Technology and the foundations for students who wish to proceed to higher levels of study in the Doctor of Information Technology.
Program Structure
Students must complete a minimum of 48 units of credit. Students must complete four core courses and four electives courses (which includes the opportunity to conduct a 12 UOC research project).

Academic Rules
1. Entry Requirements
To gain entry into the Master of Information Technology program an applicant must:
Completion of a 4-year Bachelor degree in Engineering or Bachelor's degree with Honours with a major in a cognate discipline; or
Completion of a Graduate Diploma in a cognate discipline; or
Other evidence of qualifications and professional experience equivalent to AQF Level 8 to be submitted to the relevant Program Authority to be acceptable grounds for admission into the degree.

2. Enrolment and Progression
2.1 Applications for admission to the Masters shall be made online via myUNSW Apply Online by the advertised date.
2.2 Students must enrol online via myUNSW in prescribed courses by midnight, Sunday at the end of the first week of classes.
2.3 Students seeking enrolment after the first week of classes must do so via a hardcopy "Enrolment Variation" form submitted to Student Administrative Services at UNSW Canberra.
2.4 Courses delivered by Intensive Delivery Mode (IDM) must have enrolled before the delivery of the course and no later than the "Census" date (31 March Semester one and 31 August Semester two).
2.5 Students enrolled in this degree must undertake courses and pass assessment as prescribed by UNSW Canberra.
2.6 The program of study shall total a minimum of 24 units of credit.
2.7 The Academic Standing of a candidate shall be reviewed at the end of each semester. Movement between levels of academic standing is based on progress, measured by cumulative number of failures.
2.8 Successful completion of the Masters program at UNSW Canberra provides a foundation for candidates to proceed to higher levels of study in the Doctor of Information Technology (1743).
3. Fees
A candidate shall pay fees as determined by the UNSW Council.

Faculty Regulations for Postgraduate Study via Coursework
These regulations apply to all postgraduate degrees and are to be used in conjunction with Academic Rules and Program Information. All rules in this Handbook apply to each student who enters an UNSW Canberra of ADFA postgraduate program in 2016. The rules remain applicable until the student exits their program, either by discontinuation or graduation. Students who entered a program in another year should consult the rules and regulations for that year.
