Stream Outline

Banking in a competitive, globalised economy requires an in-depth understanding of the ways financial institutions make decisions, and how these affect outcomes such as financial asset values and pricing. Specialise in banking in your Master of Commerce and learn how loan and financing decisions are made by financial institutions. You will also become skilled at understanding how risk management strategies are developed to minimise the damaging effects of adverse movements in financial markets, local and global economies, and other uncertainties.

Two Gateway Elective courses from the following (for MCom Extension students choice may be determined by the second Specialisation chosen):

One Elective Specialisation courses: or you may choose from the electives below or broaden your learning by choosing another MCom course of similar level (subject to meeting prerequisite requirements). If students are interested in a pathway to the Master of Finance, they will need to choose a Finance elective, to give a total of seven Finance courses.

High performing students will have the opportunity to apply for participate in a MCom Practicum. This would replace the Capstone course. How to apply COMM5030.

CREDIT TRANSFERS
(including the Data Analysis course) may be awarded for courses (maximum 24 UOC) based on your previous studies. These credits will be assessed upon application and you will be notified (in the offer letter) of the credit/s awarded.

It is recommended students contact the UNSW Business School Student Centre for guidance on options available to increase depth of learning.

Professional Accreditation

Business graduates may be eligible for associate membership with The Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA)
