Stream Outline

Innovation means changing the way we do things. In business it might mean producing a new product or service, introducing a new technology or operational process, implementing a new business model, or just changing the way products are marketed. Innovation is the catalyst for growth and success in a business. Innovation happens in large established companies and in small entrepreneurial startups.

The Master of Commerce (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) will develop your skills to keep business competitive in a fast-paced changing world or allow you to venture into the marketplace with a new business idea.

Master of Commerce (MCom) students must complete:
  • 2 MCom core courses
  • 3 Gateway courses - made up of designated specialist core course/s depending on the specialisation chosen
  • 6 Specialisation courses
  • 1 Capstone course

Master of Commerce (Extension) students must complete
  • 2 MCom core courses
  • 3 Gateway courses - made up of designated specialist core course/s depending on the specialisation chosen
  • 6 Specialisation courses
  • 4 additional courses
  • 1 Capstone course

*CREDIT TRANSFERS (including the Data Analysis course) may be awarded for courses (maximum 24 UOC) based on your previous studies. You will need to request assessment for credit when applying to UNSW. You will be notified (in the offer letter) of credit/s awarded.

Four Required Specialisation Courses:

Two Elective Specialisation Courses:
Note: For your electives, you also have the option to choose innovation related courses outside the Business School (with permission from the Program Director).

Capstone Course:
The Capstone course provides a “cohort” experience in a work-relevant context for all specialisations in the general area of Strategy, Marketing, Risk and Management.

If you choose to study the Master of Commerce (Extension) program 8417, you have the option to choose 4 courses (to provide you with depth of learning) from the following areas:

  • Entity, Planning and Performance
  • Finance
  • Human Resource Management
  • Marketing
  • Organisation & Management
  • Information Systems
  • International Business
  • Business Law
  • Taxation
  • **General Option
** The General Option courses allow you to choose two courses from the MCom and optional two courses outside of the MCom (other programs within the UNSW Business School) or courses from other Faculties (with permission).
