Stream Outline

This specialisation in Business Analytics will provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to analyse and work with big data from internal and external sources. This capacity is of increasing value to organisations across all sectors, enabling them to gain insights into their organisation and its environment, and improve decision-making, innovation and agility.

Organisations have been engaged in business intelligence and analytics (BI&A) for a number of years. This specialisation will provide graduates with the capacity to undertake this key business priority. There is a significant role for professionals with an information systems perspective who understand, at a technology and organisation level, how information is captured, structured and stored, governed and kept secure, how to draw insights from the information, and how to link those insights to business strategy.

Master of Commerce (MCom) students must complete:
  • 2 MCom core courses
  • 3 Gateway courses - made up of designated specialist core course/s depending on the specialisation chosen
  • 5 Specialisation courses
  • 1 additional elective course
  • 1 Capstone course

Master of Commerce (Extension) students must complete:
  • 2 MCom core courses
  • 3 Gateway courses - made up of designated specialist core course/s depending on the specialisation chosen
  • 5 Specialisation courses
  • 1 additional elective course
  • 4 additional courses
  • 1 Capstone course

Note:Students who complete the Business Analytics specialisation are eligible for certification as a Business Analyst by SAS if they complete the following courses: INFS5700; INFS5710; INFS5720 and INFS5730 or MARK5822.

If you choose to study the Master of Commerce (Extension) program 8417, you have the option to choose 4 courses (to provide you with depth of learning) from the following areas:

  • Taxation
  • *General Option
* The General Option allow you to choose two courses from the MCom and optional two courses outside of the MCom (other programs within the UNSW Business School) or courses from other Faculties (with permission).
