Plan Structure

Fundamental knowledge courses - 6 UoC
Fundamental knowledge courses are a special category of core courses by which enrolled students may be awarded advanced standing on the basis of evidence of equivalent knowledge in these courses from their undergraduate studies.

Core courses - 36 UoC
  • SAFE6201 Safety Risk Management (6 UoC)
  • SESC6031 Safety, Security, Health and Environmental Law (6UoC)
  • SESC9301 SHE Risks (6 UoC)
Exemption but not necessarily Advanced Standing may be awared to students who can establish that they have equivalent knowledge in these courses. Where exemption is granted students will be required to substitute other approved postgraduate courses.


Elective courses - 42 UoC

Elective courses may be chosen from the elective courses offered in the Master of Safety Science program, or from other schools within the University, subject to the approval of both the relevant program authorities. the range of electives available in off-campus mode is more restricted than for internal students.

Elective Project courses (up to 12 UoC)
Instead of taking SAFE9912, students may choose 12 UoC of project courses made up of one or two 6 UoC project courses listed below.
